Setting up camp in the middle of the night can be an adventure on its own. Fumbling around in the dark, trying to hold your smart-phone flashlight is next to impossible it seems, and is a new form of exercise you wouldn’t expect to perform.

Remembering your flashlight because it was on your camping list checklist is one thing, but it never fails when the darn things just aren’t bright enough!

Which begs the question:

What is the brightest flashlight made?

Well, according to 6 sources found throughout the online world, believe it or not is the Imalent MS18.

This LED flashlight has a 100,000 lumens output, a lifespan of 50,000 hours, and can reach up to 4,429 feet of brightness. No wonder deer stare in amazement at illuminating approaches of a cars headlights!

Deer in headlights - What is the brightest flashlight made?

Now that you have that answer, let’s consider some other unique LED alternatives to light up your life in the outdoor setting, including camping of course. 🙂

LED Headlamps

LED headlamps are much different from LED headlights. Headlights as mentioned above are on a vehicle. As blinding as they have become recently because of an LED switch out from halogens, headlamps are an alternative source that is worn on top of your head. Although many refer them as the same thing, I tend to like to keep things less confusing.

Now headlamps do come in a few different forms. I’ve seen clip on hat attachments that mount on the underside brim of your baseball cap. Then there are built-in lamps on toques. But the headlamps I’m referring to are the ones that come on a headband.

Why Headlamps?

As it is, when you want hands-free light access, headlamps are a thing of beauty! Whether you go for an evening / early morning jog, take your pet dog for a walk, or need to adjust your wheel chocks on your 5th wheel / travel trailer, a headlamp is your friend.

What is the brightest headlamp made?

Many “Top 10” and “Best 5 flashlights” web pages I searched through did not have my revealing answer. But after a convincing read on one website and a couple of back-checks later, it was determined that the true answer of this question goes to the Lupine Betty RX.

With 11 different brightness levels, its brightest output is 5000 lumens whereas the lowest output is 30 lumens. Definitely a solid choice if your kids are looking for those missing Lego pieces.

Camping Lanterns

How many lumens of light do LED camping lanterns need?

The feedback I’m about to reveal on this question comes from a few different sources and comments. Camping lanterns come in a variety of sizes and the most popular camping lantern still after many years is Coleman’s propane camping lantern.

To answer the question, camping lantern lights will range from 40 to 700 lumens in brightness.

What is the brightest camping lantern?

Believe it or not, propane lanterns beat out the LED types in this aspect, and according to two sources online, the answer is the Coleman Northern Nova Propane Lantern. BUT it’s not the one that’s pictured above.

Now, if we are to stick with the LED side of things, the brightest one here stays in the Coleman brand (according to 2 sources online) and is called the Twin LED Lantern, with 390 lumens of output.

Is it true to say Coleman has won in this category? No!

Why you ask? Well, this was just according to 2 searches… So when you want lumen output on camping lanterns, there is one company that outshines the Coleman brand name. Sure, they have great quality products, but we are talking LED and lumens here, and the one camping lantern with 3000 lumens output, comes from a brand called HOKOLITE.

Flashlight

As the title asks, what is the brightest flashlight made? Seeing as how we have already answered that question above, lets look at a couple more options that fall under this category! I mean, flashlights are an ideal component to have in a number of situations, for instance, they are suitable for working, climbing, hunting, fishing, camping, and other outdoor activities.

So why not see what other bright shining lights are available! They are below as follows…

Top Suggestions:

  • -50,000 lumens – Imalent MR90
  • -60,000 lumens – Acebeam X70
  • -65,000 lumens – Imalent MS12 mini
  • -80,000 lumens – Acebeam X75

As you can see, there are 2 flashlight brands holding at least a top 5 list in this category, they are Acebeam and Imalent, respectively.

Keychain Flashlights

Hokolite-Keychain Flashlight

Now having an extra light source is one thing. Putting it on a key chain though? If you are like myself, my key chain is on a caribiner, which attaches to my belt loop when not sitting in the ignition of the vehicle, so having a flashlight attached to that in a pinch, isn’t a bad idea.

What is the brightest key chain flashlight?

According to Amazon, this answer tends to be the Titan Plus by Surefire. Supposedly it shines with a 300 lumen output, but again, this is just one source.

Upon further research, I can truly say I have found two other options, that are far brighter. One is from a previous mentioned brand, Hokolite, which is pictured to the right, and has 800 lumens output, plus is a rechargeable flashlight.

The second and definitely the brightest key chain flashlight I have found is called the Nitecore T4K, which comes with an outstanding 4000 lumen output!

I don’t know about you, but in case of emergency, don’t wait until you are lost in the dark. Be prepared for any circumstance and brighten up your surroundings with one of those powerful key chain lights. Just don’t blind yourself or others!

Bike/Bicycle Lights

Now here’s an illuminating alternative that I never think about, but is a great idea to have, especially when camping.

There are so many trails near campgrounds now-a-days, that often times I see families go for late evening bike rides with their kids, but you can’t see them in the dusk because they don’t have bright clothing or a light source of sorts.

So, why not find out what’s out there, so this can be avoided in the future?

3 Mentions of the Brightest Bike Lights:

  • -Niterider 3600 Pro – 3600 lumens
  • -Nitecore BR35 – 1800 lumens
  • -Hokolite Bike Headlight w/ 21 light modes – 1600 lumens

To put it into perspective, a cars headlight runs at approximately 1500 lumens, so having a bicycle light brighter than that would only be useful if night riding on a back country trail of sorts.

However, the thing that intrigues me in this category is the 21 light modes that the Hokolite brand offers. So I dug up the info on this and present to you below what they mean.

Outdoor Light Strings

The ambiance of light sources in the camping world are strangely growing popular, not so much in a blinding factor, but a comfort factor per se.

As this topic was based on the brightest flashlight, I will mention which string lights, patio lights, or strip lights are considered the brightest (according to my research), but I will also mention other availabilities, as I feel anything past the 1500 lumens range would be too much.

Let’s see what’s out there:

  • -Alitade S14 LED Outdoor String Lights – 2700K output
  • -Lepro LED Strip Light – 6000K output (which is approx. 1800 lumens)
  • -Carefree Flourescent Light – 32″ fixture (for RV awning replacement) – lumen output n/a
  • -Camco outdoor party lights – see picture below

As you can see, the variety of light sourcing available comes in all kinds. I couldn’t resist mentioning these Camco styled ones, due to the fact, they’re shaped like campers! I would show up at someone’s campsite if they had these hanging up, wouldn’t you (at least for the compliment)?

Oh, and in case you were wondering, the actual brightest light string is the LED strip light 6500K, in a cool white at 2264 lumen output compliments of this website: Brightest LED Strip Lights – 6500K White LED Strips (bestledstrip.com)

Solar Lights

Like string lights, solar lights come in a variety of different options when it comes to camping. Many times, you can get combinations of these products together, for instance, solar powered camping lanterns. That’s correct, they do exist, but are they bright enough?

Think of the solar light as you would a solar panel for that matter. Any direct charge of your product coming from the suns rays, will directly output what charge get in, out to that product. So essentially, many of these light sources won’t (or shouldn’t) have a huge lumens output.

So what is the brightest solar light?

I guess that depends on what style… Like I said, they come in many combinations. For the purpose of answering that question I’ll break it down to: Path Lights (what you notice on walkways), Spot Lights (utilized for the garden setting) and Outdoor Shed / Garage / Deck lights (in the spotlight form).

  1. 1-Path Lights – BEAU JARDIN 8 Pack Glass Solar Pathway Landscape Lights LED – approx. 10 lumens of output.
  2. 2-Spot Lights – LEREKAM 40 LEDs Solar Landscape Spotlights – 40 LEDs. lumens n/a
  3. 3-Shed / Garden / Deck Lights – YUJENY Solar Outdoor Lights – 30 LEDs and 800 lumens output.

Motion Sensor Lights

Are there Solar lights that are also motion sensored? Yes, there is. The last mentioned product YUJENY is actually.

But let’s not stop there, no. Not only are motion lights available as solar lights for the outdoor world, they can pretty much be used in a variety of applications inside as well.

For instance, they are perfect to light up in a dark space where there is no light system, like a cabinet, closet, hallway or basement.

What are some of the best and brightest motion sensor lights then?

  • -Lightbulbs – LED Corn Light Bulb 40W(400W Equivalent) 6000K Daylight White 4000 lumens
  • -Security Lights – LEONLITE LED Security Lights Motion Sensor Flood light 1800 lumens 20W Light
  • -Ceiling Lights – Hokolite Rechargeable LED Motion Sensor Ceiling Light With Remote Cool White 6500K
  • -Closet Lights – Hokolite Rechargeable LED Motion Sensor Closet Light

I couldn’t wrap my head around a closet light so I’m adding a special bonus video so you can see what I mean:

Work Lights

Sticking with the Hokolite brand for a minute, they have a super cool work light that caught my attention. It’s an 8000 lumens LED work light stand with three-head lights, for construction job site lighting.

Hokolite WorkLight

Having one of these around when you need to install a propane tank on your motor home would be a really good idea, wouldn’t you think?

However is this the brightest work light out there? There are a lot of times when a bright, floody light can be handy – in the garage working on a car, lighting up that backyard party, or providing some gentle illumination for your campsite. Let’s see what else is available.

3 of the Brightest Worklights According to (lumenfreaks.com):

  1. 1-Good – NextLED 10,000 LM 110 W LED Work Light (1000W Equivalent)
  2. 2-Better – PowerSmith PWL2150TS 15, 000 Lumens LED Dual Head Work Light with Heavy-Duty Adjustable Metal Telescoping Tripod Stand
  3. 3-Best – LEDMO LED Work Light with Tripod Stand 20000LM 200W 5000K

Running Lights

Of the brightest lights available in the above categories, there truly is many illuminating options to choose from. Keeping camping in mind, I think of running lights.

Now your version of what you call running lights and my version might be two different things. Perhaps when you think running lights, your first instinct is on a vehicle. Seeing that ambient glow on the exterior undercarriage of a stealthy car…

Car Undercarriage Running Lights

Don’t get me wrong, they do look rather intriguing on some vehicles, but again, keeping camping in mind, I’m referring to actual running lights, like joggers wear, and not the actual term that is supposed to be:

“Running lights are the lights on the front end of a vehicle that automatically turn on when the vehicle is started and stay on as long as the engine is running.” – (wikimotors.org)

The jogging version of running lights come in styles of a clip on version, to an arm-band version, to even a chest light belt, or fanny pack waist style. They can get as bright as 800 lumens and higher, pending on the brand.

This 600 lumen LED Reflective Running Vest Safety Light for example is considered to be very effective in the dark. At 600 lumens, it’s no bike headlamp, but it does exactly what it needs to do, which is keep runners safe in the dark.

Tactical Lights

One of the most forgotten about in the camping world, but least forgotten in the enforcement world are police security flashlights. Security guards, Police Officers, military, etc.absolutely love their tactical gear, and none better than a tactical flashlight.

What’s the brightest and best tactical light?

I’m glad you asked ;). You see, according to a few hours of search methods, I happen to have 4 answers for you.

They are:

  • -Fenix Flashlight TK35 – Max output 2600 lumens with a beam distance of 1247 feet.
  • -Acebeam L35 – Max output 5000 lumens with a beam distance of 1563 feet.
  • -Nitecore TM20K – Max output of 20,000 lumens with a beam distance of 1004 feet.
  • -Nitecore TM9K Tac – Max output of 9800 lumens with a beam distance of 446 feet

The Light at the End of the Tunnel

Light at the End of the Tunnel

Drawing to a close, we see the majority of the brightest lights available in the world today are rather impressive!

The scary part is, is that there are so many versions of flashlights and work lights etc. that I’m sure I missed a few.

But what I’ve learned, and I hope you have too, is that with all the above mentioned options, each one unique in their own setting, is that they all have a purpose, and can all get the job accomplished.

Whether it be useful for a decoration, or be the helpful tool to find something in the dark more accurately, flashlights are here to stay!

  1. Wow. I didn’t expect all of this great information when I first clicked on you post. I have been looking for a good flashlight, preferably solar or a convenient LED headlamp. As much as I would like to be as green as possible and harness the power of the sun, your information that solar flashlights will not have the highest lumen output has made me think my options.

This is a good thing because I was leaning more towards using an LED headlamp instead. My friend swears by them and says a headlamp will always give to the light directly at what you are looking at. Plus the Hands-Free option is a big plus. That Lupine Betty RX seems like it would be great for my camping trips. Do you happen to know the runtime on the battery?

    1. Robert, you’re welcome for the information.

Yes the Lupine Betty RX claims to have a battery power runtime of up to 310 hours before it needs a recharge. This is rather impressive when compated to other headlamps.

I plan on making a product review on all of these mentioned flashlights in the near future, so may I suggest bookmarking this page, and checking back often.

      Cheers!
