Introduction:
Ah, the heart of any home, even if it’s on wheels – the kitchen. In the world of RVs, the kitchen isn’t just a place to cook; it’s a compact haven where culinary magic happens. So, what are some must have kitchen items for RVs? Let’s dive into the essentials, optimize your space, and make your RV kitchen the hub of deliciousness on your travels.
Appliances: Navigating the Space Maze
In the confined quarters of an RV, choosing the right appliances is crucial. While we’d all love to bring our Kitchen-Aid stand mixer on a camping trip, reality says otherwise. So, what should make it into your RV kitchen arsenal?
Yes, Please!
- 1- Fridge: A no-brainer, keeping things cool on the road.
- 2- Microwave: Standard but not always a necessity – alternatives can suffice.
- 3- Slow Cooker: Perfect for simmering soups, stews, and casseroles.
- 4- Ice Maker: Compact versions save space, or opt for outdoor use.
- 5- Toaster: A simple yet effective appliance for that perfect crunch.
Not So Much:
- 1- Food Processor, Stand Mixer, Hand Mixer, Blender, Juicer, Immersion Blender: Save these for your home kitchen.
- 2- Toaster-Oven, Insta-Pot, Coffee Pot, Griddle/Waffle Maker, Sandwich Maker: Consider the space they occupy versus how often you use them in your RV.
Beyond the Basics: Enhancing Your RV Kitchen Arsenal
In the quest for the perfect RV kitchen, let’s explore a few additional items that can take your culinary adventures to the next level:

Storage Solutions: Tetris in Tiny Spaces
RVs, despite advancements, still test your spatial Tetris skills. Here’s where you can stow away those must-have kitchen items:
- 1- Pantry’s Magic: Optimize pantry space for dry goods and smaller appliances.
- 2- Under Sink Creativity: If there aren’t shelves, build them to maximize under-sink space.
- 3- Dinette Seats’ Hidden Treasures: Store items under dinette seats, a surprisingly spacious spot.
- 4- Overhead Storage: Cupboards above the sink or table – perfect for lightweight items.
- 5- Outdoor Stash: Utilize pass-thru storage or other exterior compartments for less-used items.
Inside, Outside, and All Around: RV Kitchen Flexibility
Maximize your RV kitchen experience by thinking beyond the countertop. Here’s how:
- 1- Outdoor Cooking Extravaganza: Even without an outdoor kitchen, create one.
- – Essentials for Outdoor Cooking:
- >Camp Stove or Burner
- >Tabletop BBQ or similar
- >Cast Iron cookware
- >Essential: FOOD & SPICES

- – Essentials for Outdoor Cooking:
- 2- Rule of Thumb: If it’s not a regular indoor item, take it outside. Embrace the freedom of open-air cooking whenever possible.
The Alternatives: A Culinary Revolution
Now, what if you’re eyeing that toaster oven or coffee pot but reconsidering the space they hog? Fear not, alternatives await:
- 1- Coffee Conundrum:
- – Traditional Pot: Opt for a smaller version or switch to a percolator.
- – Instant Coffee: A microwave-friendly solution for quick caffeine fixes.
- 2- Toaster Oven Woes:
- – Slow Cooker Magic: It can make more than stews – think banana bread and snacks.
- – Toaster and Cast Iron Combo: Your trusty toaster and versatile cast iron equipment are all you need.
Final Thoughts: RV Kitchen Wisdom
In the world of RVing, simplicity is key. Assess your storage space, streamline your kitchen gear, and embrace the mantra of ‘less is more.’ Our rule of thumb – one of everything, and if there’s a replacement, downsize. Cheers to the culinary adventures that await in your RV kitchen!
This is a nice site, Jeremy. I like it. It is also very good for me because when I get some money coming in, and I get enough, I am planning on getting a new truck and a camper of some sort. You answered a lot of questions and I will have to come back and look at this again.
The only question I can think of that you did not cover for me is “should I go hitch or 5th wheel?” But that is me and is not your intent for this site. Sorry, I got carried away. 🙂
Thank you, JD.
I do have the intention to write an article relating to what you’ve mentioned, so please stay tuned. And yes, this site is designed to give everyone information on “everything Rvs”, particularly this article, focusing on the must have Kitchen items.
When you do get your truck and camper, I hope you have a nice adventure.
Cheers!
