Let’s type about your most recent purchase to date, being a Vintage RV. But let’s not do it with a typewriter. Although, the computer I’m utilizing looks eerily similar to the above picture…
Ok, I won’t get too carried away, it still has the letter 8 key.
But in all seriousness, where do you get Vintage RV trailer parts? What is “vintage” by definition?
[ˈvin(t)ij] Noun: the time that something of quality was produced
So, in the times when camping evolved, these trailers were created, and quality was top notch. The Airstream was an extremely popular unit, and still is in the minds of most. Lately, different designs of vintage trailers have also started to make appearances.
For instance, as timelines go, Winnebago’s were extremely popular as well, all of a sudden, we have “mini winnies” being made.
But let’s not get sidetracked. Let’s focus in on the details of this post. Let’s give you a list of vintage RV trailer parts that are commonly being sourced out in this era, and where you could purchase them from.
Awnings
Last summer I had the luxury of helping out a camper put their awning back together on their vintage unit. I of course was taller, which made it easier, but it was bent just that tiny bit, and it took holding your breath right to get it back into its storage holder.
I wouldn’t have known where to begin to search for a replacement awning, had that slight bend turned into something worse like, taking the whole unit down, or using duct tape to hold it together. Both options were not happening.
Although not cheap, the pole and rope awning set range anywhere from $380-$1000+ dollars. If you’re going to
keep vintage, you’re going to have to pay for vintage replacement parts! After a beer or two, you’ll be glad you have that new awning set up anyway.
Rims and Hubcaps
Now, tire rims are available in several locations throughout North America, and in many styles, but what about ALL vintage styled rims in 4, 5, & 6 bolt patterns, and in 13″, 14″, 15″, and 16″ sizes? Believe it or not, these are more commonly seeked out parts sourced out for vintage trailers than you would think.
I don’t know about you, but remember this car:
If you want to go Back to the Future, then you might as well take the rims and hubcaps along, because these things were awesome! And they were possibly cheaper back then too, but at $20-$50 per hubcap, and $80-$125 per rim in this day and age, it’s well worth it to get that vintage looking camping unit looking, well, awesome, and vintage!
Interior / Exterior Lights
Here are some vintage RV trailer parts that aren’t as expensive to purchase. They end up being a little light on the pocketbook, yet they are still just as sourced out as the above two products.
Ironically enough, other lighting products such as:
- -wall sconce
- -dome lights
- -switch plates
- -toggle switches
and
- -globe light covers
range from 5$-$70, pending on the product sourced out.
Front Window Rock Guards
If you did buy that vintage RV though, how often do you need to replace your window in your Airstream?
There are options available for your vehicles, like mudflaps or a rock guard that looks like a mudflap. These only do so much, but were you aware that there are replacement products for your vintage unit as well?
Perhaps you may have been, and that’s great! These things start off at just over $400, and to protect that window, it’s a good investment. The one vintage unit you wouldn’t have to worry about the window too much would be the old classic VW camper van. If you put one of these on it, it better be stationary!
Where to Buy Vintage RV Trailer Parts
To recap, you are the proud owner of a VW, Winnebago, or Airstream, and you know you eventually (or definitely) need a replacement product. In a previous article “Where is the best source for RV Parts and accessories” I reference places to look for situations like such, however, being that these parts are more “uncommon” than most, I will suggest a website that has it all – Vintage Trailer Supply. Please have a look at their stock, you can’t go wrong with a one stop online store that has the majority of everything you need!
Cheers!
