Towing Products are the key feature that connects any RV, Travel Trailer, or Gooseneck to a vehicle. Different from a towing accessory, the products that are used for towing range from hitches to couplers and come in a variety of parts manufactured by several companies.

Reese, is one of those manufacturing companies that claim to be industry leading in the design of innovative towing solutions. Below and alphabetically, I will enlist what Reese towing products have been made, as well give you a bit of brief description on what some of these products do.

Reese Towing Products

Ball in Bed

As Reese has the gear that you need to connect your truck and trailer safely and securely, the first product on this list happens to be a simple ball only, usually 2-5/16″ in size that pops into the hitch part of a gooseneck kit.

The basic description of this design is a ball mount that is hidden from view, in the back of your truck bed. It becomes visible when you install the ball, popping it into place, whereas now it is your connection for your trailer.

The kit itself is simply installed under the bed of your Ford, Dodge, or Chevy truck, which is rated for 25,000lbs. How it works, is that you lift and turn the lever to unlock and remove the ball when not in use, and pop it in, when needed to use.

The ball itself when not in use stays in a sleeve to keep it free of debris. Two safety chain holders are attached directly to the rail system as well, so when your hitch is hooked up, there is no need to worry about where to hook those safety chains.

Ball Lube

This towing product can be classified as an accessory, but isn’t in this instance. The fine line that makes this a towing product, is that it is to be used almost as much as the hitch itself upon hookup.

What it is, is a non-greasy, water resistant, non-toxic hitch ball lube, that reduces coupler and ball wear on all styles of hitch ball couplers, including the under bed mount one listed above.

Ball Mounts

Either 2-5/16″ or 3″ in diameter, the style of ball mounts come in two choices. One is designed for installation inside of the truck bed for the utilization of a gooseneck hitch, which is different from the ball in bed version. The other is simply attached to a receiver hitch, which is suitable for a bumper pull type of trailer.

These can be a part of a kit, or sold separately on their own. Other versions can also come in the form of a pintle hitch mount, which is perfect for those towing multiple trailers of varying heights and couplers.

Fifth Wheel Hitches

Reese seems to designate the majority of their manufacturing time on 5th wheel hitches. With styles that are designed for between the ranges of 16,000 lbs and 32,000lbs capacity, you’re sure to find the exact style of hitch you’ll need to tow that fifth wheel travel trailer.

Certain models are a permanent truck bed mount, while some are installed on a rail system. The rail system itself can be either a channel iron setup, or a tubing rail system.

Each style of fifth wheel hitch has different specifications, but each have similar features, such as easy grip handles, locking tabs for increased security, strong reliable performance, and easy removal in the event of needing an empty truck bed.

Deciding on this style of hitch requires some unique calculations, but coincidentally, I am conveniently linking an application chart home page, that you may have first noticed on my Ford Fifth Wheel Tailgate – A Stromberg Carlson Mfg. Product Review article.

Goosenecks

Labeled different from a fifth wheel hitch, the concept is still the same, being utilized in the back of the truck bed. Gooseneck kits provide a strong and durable solution for those that pull both RV style fifth wheels and gooseneck stock and flatbed trailers.

At one point in time, people often confused a gooseneck with a fifth wheel hitch, but the difference is quite simple. See below:

gooseneck vs 5th wheel

Receiver Hitches

What gets utilized the most with ball mounts, a receiver hitch is directly attached to the back and underside of your vehicle choice. Most new vehicles already have a tow package, however there are older versions that still require them if you are towing a trailer with them.

By definition, and according to Curt manufacturing, which is another towing product supply company:

Some REESE models of these hitches include a Universal Multi-Fit class III receiver hitch, which fit full-size pick-up trucks, SUVs and full-size vans, as well as light and super duty pickup trucks.

Receiver Tubes

These devices fit inside of the receiver hitch, and can either house the ball mount, or reduce a normal 2-1/2″ receiver down to 2″. There are also extensions available which provides users an extra reach that solves towing 1/4″ sharp turn restrictions.

Another example of a receiver tube is that of a drop receiver, but are not as popular as the already drop versions of ball mounts.

Sidewinder / Airborne / Goose Pin Box

What is the opposite end of an attachment to a 5th wheel hitch, or Gooseneck hitch, these products are designed with the intention of connecting your trailer to the ball mount or ball hitch inside your truck bed.

Pictured below, the sidewinder can make up to 90-degree turns without exiting the truck to release the hitch so it can slide or pivot into the maneuvering.

The airborne model is designed to improve the ride in the cab of the truck by minimizing the negative impact of vertical shock. While the Goose Box has been made for RV trailer owners who wish to tow with their gooseneck hitch.

Starter Kit

Reese only has available one towing starter kit that I am aware of, and that is pretty much all you need to get started. It includes a black powder coated reversible ball mount, which has a 2″ drop, and 3/4″ rise. It is overall 8-1/2″ in length and comes with a convenient plastic storage case.

Steps

Reese has designed what I think, is perfect for those that have a pull type travel trailer. It’s a 2″ x 2″ receiver with a permanently fabricated step on it. With the aid of a hitch extension that can extend your total length hitch by 14″ or 18″, this eliminates going around the length of the trailer or truck just to get to the other side.

Sway Controls & Weight Distribution Hitches

Both of these products basically go hand-in-hand, and are generally for the pull type travel trailer only. Reese has a variety of styles available of distribution hitches and sway control products. They can be supplied in either a round bar system, or their STEADi-FLEX system

The Round bar system weight distribution hitch ensures a safe, smooth, level ride wherever you decide to tow. It features things such as:

  • Tapered spring bars – provide constant weight distribution
  • 2 point sway control
  • 2-5/16″ hitch ball – pre-installed and torqued to proper specs.
  • Lifting handle
  • Limited lifetime warranty

while the steadi-flex system is an all-in-one sway control and weight distribution system that features:

  • No drill installation
  • Integrated sway control
  • 2″ deeper drop on drawbar
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Each weight distribution hitch has limited gross trailer weight specs attached and comes available in 3 different part numbers, and an example of this product is pictured below.

Other Suppliers or Towing Products

It’s no surprise that in the RV world, that no matter the product, there is always more than one supplier. Below, I will give you a quick run-down of other popular supplier names that manufacture towing products.

Conclusion

Concluding this article, you can clearly see that REESE is a tough competitor in this category, as well as towing accessories. Having the majority of these products available from the Amazon link I provided earlier, REESE also has a really easy to use Dealer/Finder page on their website as well.

Alternatively, you can find other variations of these products from other suppliers and store-fronts, which you can read about in this article here: Where is the Best Source for RV Parts and Accessories?

Lastly, in knowing you have all of these tow products available, be sure you match it up correctly with the type of trailer you intend to haul. Not sure whether you are looking for a fifth wheel or a travel trailer? Perhaps I can fill you in on the type of each by reading this article:

I came across this post about Reese Towing Products on EverythingRVsAndMore and I must say, I’m intrigued. I’m an avid RVer and I’ve always been on the lookout for reliable and efficient towing products.

So, what do you think about Reese Towing Products? Have any of you used them before?

From what I gather from this post, Reese Towing Products have been around for quite some time and have established a reputation for providing high-quality towing equipment. The products are designed to make towing easier, safer and more comfortable, which is music to my ears.

One product that caught my eye was the Reese Secure Trailer Hitch Lock. It seems like a handy item to have when you’re parked at an RV park, giving you peace of mind that your trailer is secure. I’ve never used a trailer hitch lock before, but it seems like a good investment.

I must admit, I’m quite impressed by the range of products that Reese Towing Products offers. From weight distribution hitches to sway control systems, they’ve got it all covered.

Overall, I think Reese Towing Products are worth checking out for anyone looking for reliable and high-quality towing equipment

I currently use the Reese sway control bars, and let me tell you, one link on the safety chains up or down makes all the difference in towing a trailer! But overall – I approve!

I’m glad you enjoyed the article. As for the trailer hitch lock, I feel that might fit in the towing accessories category, but hey, they do have it all!

      Cheers!
